Hello! My name is Barbara Breakey, and I am excited to make you look better in writing. I am eager to help you with your proofreading needs—let’s face it, we all could use a second set of eyes!

I spent much of my adult life working in an office setting for the same company. At the time, I had no idea that all those emails, letters, and other correspondences I had created were helping to develop my editing career.

In 2020, God redirected my path. Part of that redirecting was enrolling in a rigorous proofreading course, requiring me to successfully proofread forty essays to pass. I dug into the course material, passed my exam, and received my certificate of completion. Once I got into the practical details of proofreading, I fell in love!

I have since taken several courses to hone my skills, and that is what you will find me doing during my spare time. There is always something new to learn, and with the explosion of AI, I need to stay ahead of the curve.

I am a registered volunteer at Distributed Proofreaders, where they work with Project Gutenberg to digitize and archive cultural works. To be part of the experience of converting these timeless pieces of literature into eBooks is an extraordinary experience. It combines two of my favorite things: proofreading and helping others. I am also a member of The Christian PEN. You will find me in their directory of editors on the Silver Member’s page.

I love working on Christian material, and my aim is to one day work exclusively in that area. But for now, I am open to other genres. I feel as though this is something that God has called me to do, and I could not be happier to do it!
